About the Designer and Project Coordinator

Hunton Conrad

Designer

Hunton Conrad was born and grew up in Hawai'i. After many years of travel on the mainland and around the world, he returned to Hawai'i 25 years ago. He started in landscape design, and in just a few years became recognized as one of the most inventive landscape designers in Hawai'i. Today, he is an artist whose art form is "environments." His work draws on the three professions that comprise environments -- architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design. His work on the Oma'opio Ridge project includes landscape design as well as the design of all the homes that are being constructed.

His most recent major project, beside Oma'opio Ridge, has been the complete design and renovation of the Hotel Hana-Maui, an exclusive, resort property on Maui's east coast. The renovation includes all rooms, the Sea Ranch Cottages, the public areas, and the landscaping, as well as the construction of the spa and fitness center.

Previously, he has

  • developed and supervised the design of the site plan, architectural plan, interiors, and landscape plan of Coconut Plaza Hotel in Honolulu;
  • designed gardens for the historic Bailey House Museusm in Wailuku, the Kahului Public Library Courtyard Garden for the Native Hawaiian Plant Society, and the historic Lahaina Courthouse; and
  • designed numerous residences and landscapes for clients throughout the Hawaiian Islands, the U.S. mainland, Europe, and New Zealand.

Phil Christopher

Project Coordinator and Realtor

Phil Christopher, principal broker of Phil Christopher Realty, is the Project Coordinator/Realtor for Oma'opio Ridge. A Maui resident for thirty years, Phil was formerly a mechanical engineer in the aerospace industry and a building subcontractor.

He has played a major role in all aspects of Oma'opio Ridge, from acquisition of the land in 1996 to its current operation. Phil guided the subdivision process from 1997 through to final approval of Phase I in 2001, and he coordinated the engineering and construction of the road, utilities, and the water system.

Currently he directs the ongoing maintenance of the infrastructure and coordinates the work of various service contractors. Also, he has been the liaison between the developers and government agencies at the state and county levels to gain Maui County approval for Phase II of the project, which was granted on November 1, 2007. He and his wife have built a home in Oma’opio Ridge and have become full-time residents there.

Phil Christopher Realty is the exclusive agent of the developers in the marketing and sales of all homes and lots in Oma'opio Ridge. (From time to time, lots and homes in Omaopio Ridge may come up for re-sale; Phil is not necessarily the broker for those.)
